Partners in Prevention: Social Welfare

Twente Hall

Sexual violence is a serious community health issue that requires a community-wide response. As part of ongoing efforts to prevent violence in our community, the School of Social Welfare and Sexual Assault Prevention & Education Center have partnered to offer bystander intervention training. In Spring 2017, Bringing in the Bystander® (BITB) will be offered to all undergraduate students, graduate students, staff, and faculty within the School of Social Welfare.

BITB is a university-sponsored, evidenced-based bystander intervention training program developed for college students. The program is 90 minutes in length and provides participants with the skills to help them act when they see behavior that puts others at risk for violence, victimization, or perpetration. These skills include speaking out against rape myths and sexist language, supporting victim/survivors, and intervening in potentially violent situations.
