Respect KU: Campus Sexual Harassment Recognition and Response

 As part of KU's comprehensive sexual harassment prevention programming, the Sexual Assault Prevention and Education Center provides all enrolled students with a Canvas based informational training to build a foundation of shared knowledge regarding sexual and intimate partner violence recognition and response.  This annual training is mandatory for all new and continuing undergraduate students, graduate students, and non-degree seeing students.

Content Warning: This training utilizes situations and topics that can be triggering to some survivors of sexual violence and/or intimate partner violence. Support for all affected by sexual violence and/or intimate partner violence is available through the confidential KU Care Coordinator at care@ku.edu. The University of Kansas is committed to the education, growth, and safety of our students. As part of KU's comprehensive sexual assault prevention programming, the Sexual Assault Prevention and Education Center is using a web-based educational training addressing sexual and intimate partner violence prevention. The training is mandatory for all new and continuing undergraduate students, graduate students, and non-degree seeing students.

This online training has a limited scope of information covered and is not intended to be an exhaustive conversation on such a complex and personal topic.  During your time at KU, you will have the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of sexual and intimate partner violence prevention programming from many campus partners; including but not limited to, the Sexual Assault Prevention and Education Center, the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX, and CARE Services. 

This training is free and is NOT a regular KU course for academic credit; it is a mandatory educational program in keeping with Federal Title IX requirements.

  • All new* and continuing KU undergraduate, graduate, and non-degree seeking students enrolled at KU for the Fall semester must complete the training by the Fall semester deadline before enrolling in Spring semester classes.
    • First year undergraduate students based on the Lawrence Campus, will complete the in-person Jayhawks Give a Flock training instead of the online training during the fall semester of their freshman year.

       

  • New KU undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Spring semester must complete the training by the Spring semester deadline before enrolling in Fall semester classes.

All KU undergraduate, graduate, and non degree seeking students should check their KU Canvas account.  Required Trainings will be accessible as a course tile on their dashboard. 

All new and continuing KU undergraduate, graduate, and non-degree seeking students must completed prior to enrollment in future semesters. Typically holds are put in place two weeks before enrollment is open, for accounts that are not in compliance with the training requirements.  For specific due dates, please refer to your dashboard and open the Sexual Harassment Prevention course tile. 

Students who do not complete the required training will be unable to register for future classes until the training has been completed.

Enrollment holds are activated post due date for this program and are removed by an automated system hourly upon completion of the training.
